Yalah, let’s open the circle and join our hands in stormy times
e.p.a. Study Seminar: 19.- 25.3.2019 in Ceuta, Spain

The study seminar was the first part of e.p.a.’s project "Power of the open circle! Young people discover active citizenship!“, supported by the European Youth Foundation, Council of Europe.

This e.p.a. study seminar was a very special journey to one of the most interesting regions of the European Union. Our destination was the Spanish enclave Ceuta in North-Africa and the study seminar was hosted by our partner group Almatahiar, ("Flying souls" in Spanish).

For one week 20 participants from 12 countries came together to share and learn from each other about the situation of civil society Ceuta and about the state of play of youth rights and youth affairs in different countries.

The group had the opportunity to see challenging but also encouraging insights into a city between two continents, with a variety of cultures and religions living next to each other.

Our story „Study visit in Ceuta – between continents, cultures and religions“ invites to learn more about Ceuta and e.p.a. partner group Almatahiar.

The Power of the Open Circle - Young people discover active citizenship
e.p.a training course: 08.-15.6.2019 in Thessaloniki, Greece

This international training course was the second part of e.p.a.’s project "Power of the open circle! Young people discover active citizenship!“, supported by the European Youth Foundation, Council of Europe and it took place in 2019 in the beautiful city of Thessaloniki. The host was our partner ARSIS Thessaloniki.

Youth workers, volunteers and youth activists from 20 countries came together to talk and share experiences with each other about „Active citizenship in Youth Work“, highlighting the rights of young people.
The training course celebrated potentials of non-formal learning and its relation to how active citizenship can be promoted by youth workers and activists not only locally, but also internationally. Social Circus and Mobile School were presented as participative and activating methods. The participants created together a practical pocket manual of 14 games for inclusion and diversity, which is now available on our website for free download.

With the help of our friend and professional videographer Nikola from Serbia, we also produced a video, that is definitely worth watching!

YOUth find the power!
e.p.a. youth exchange: 19.7.-2.8.2019, in Liverpool

The e.p.a. Youth Exchange with the title “YOUth find the power! - Young people from East and West become empowered to challenge the politics that affect them" took place in the UK with 60 young people from 6 different countries.

Participants from Tyumen and Kurgan (Russian Federation), Kiev (Ukraine), Sofia (Bulgaria), Lisbon (Portugal), Hamburg (Germany) and from Liverpool (UK) came together for two weeks to explore the topic of young people’s participation and to discuss how they can play an active role for democracy in their communities.

The Local hosts from the Liverpool youth group "e.p.a./Up4Change" did an amazing job - and play! - in order to continue our path of exchanges with the focus on democracy and active citizenship education. The programme included intercultural games, excursions, project visits and a cultural programme. The project was supported by the Erasmus+ and it contributed to and celebrated European values - with the hope to see UK remaining in the European Union.

Please enjoy and like our beautiful photos and videos that we have posted on Facebook and Instagram.
Care and share for our community
e.p.a youth exchange: 10.-28.8.2019 in Tatranská Lomnica & Bratislava, Slovakia

Malými zmenami vieme dosiahnuť veľké veci means in Slovak language: “With small changes we can achieve big things”. Thanks to our host group Ulita, based in Kopcany in Bratislava, we had the chance to discover this topic in the beautiful Slovakia.

With the support of "Erasmus+", this youth exchange created one more opportunity to bring young people together and to share ideas and experiences around the roots of environmental problems. Our message was: Environmental problems can not be tackled only on the individual level, but they need to be solved with sustainable common solutions and by being politically active.

The participants confirmed that if we want to become active for a cleaner environment, we should begin with our own community. As an encouraging example, the exchange group organised a community cleaning day, which is documented as a short video in order to spread the message further.

See more about the cleaning day action on our project website.
Setting Sails for Partner-Ships
e.p.a youth exchange: 2.-17.3.2019 in Accra, Ghana and 22.9.-7.10.2019 in Hamburg, Germany

In September 2019 e.p.a. had a pleasure to welcome our friends from Ghana in Hamburg. One year before all visas of the young people of the partner organisation "Act for Change" were refused without any reasons, but after many tough protest actions the dream finally came true.

This bilateral exchange continued the work from the exchange, which took place in March in Accra, Ghana, on the topic of United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals and especially on goal 17: "Partnerships for the Goals".

Both exchanges included workshops in schools and youth centres, street actions, project visits and meetings with politicians, impressively showing how good global partnership and intercultural non-formal education work in practice.

Hand in Hand - networking for peace and democracy
e.p.a training seminar: 23.-29.10.2019 in Hamburg, Germany

The third part of e.p.a.’s project "Power of the open circle! Young people discover active citizenship!“ took place in Hamburg. After the successfull activities in Ceuta, Spain, and in Thessaloniki, Greece, e.p.a. team was happy to host this international training seminar with the ambitious title "Hand in Hand - networking for peace and democracy".

Colleagues from different civil society organisations in the youth field worked together on political, institutional and organisational aspects of their initiatives, discovering the great potentials of the youth civil society as important players for peaceful and democratic development in their communities. We enjoyed sharing the experience and getting inspired from each other for our future projects.

By the end of the training course, young participants developed a list of recommendations as a video.
